Anonymous: your textures are super prettyyy<3 do you have any tips to texture making?

Aw, thank you! The only tips that come to my mind now are:

- make sure you enjoy your own textures but also try to answer your audience’s taste;

- look for inspiration everywhere you can - TV, film, photography, art, books, magazines, nature, people, science, etc.;

- be inspired by other people’s work but don’t copy it; learn by imitation, not cloning;

- get yourself Photoshop or other editing software, as well a scanner and a camera;

- try different colourings, play with adjustments, filters, lay textures on top of other textures, cut, copy, rotate;

- make your textures as big as you want; the bigger the better, of course *wink wink*; good resolution is key;

- be consistent;

- both theme-oriented and mixed packs work just fine;

- stick to a chosen schedule, routine is awesome;

- decide on your rules of use, don’t be forgiving, be firm and execute your limits;

- take care of rights of your original work and be wary of the rights of art you scan from somewhere - those are not yours to take;

- experiment, see what works for you and don’t be afraid to change things; spend your time on learning about your software and be ready to sacrifice hours;

- remember that you practice with time; no work, no gain;

- decide on a given style of the preview image so that it’s you-specific; include it in every pack with the title, amount of textures, your name, your rules, more info, etc.;

- don’t throw out PSDs, save them for future use;

- get yourself an account on a hosting site where you can store your textures, it can be MediaFire, Dropbox, whatever site you like;

- popularize your work on deviantArt, it’s a great online surface for beginners as well as pros; advertise your textures on tumblr too;

- make sure you tag your textures the right way; it all depends on the website but here on tumblr only the first five tags show up;

- prepare your profile, make it clean, neat and readable, organize your tags and make a page for them, as well as a faq page, rules page, etc.;

- don’t be discouraged; you can be good and you will be;

- be nice to people and it will come back to you;

- don’t use other people’s textures to make your own textures, just don’t;
